Closed-cell spray foam
A dense, rigid variety of polyurethane spray foam insulation. Around 2 lb/cu ft density. Harder and more expensive to remove than open-cell.
Closed-cell spray foam contains tightly packed cells that don't interconnect, creating a denser, harder, more thermally efficient material.
It bonds firmly to roof timbers and felt — a feature for installers but a problem for removal contractors.
Closed-cell takes 30-40% longer to remove and costs more per square metre as a result.
Closed-cell removal in West Yorkshire runs £65-80 per m².
